Protecting Your Email
Email is often targeted by attackers. Keep your email secure.
Strong Email Passwords
- Unique password for each email account
- At least 12 characters
- Mix of character types
Recognize Phishing
- Suspicious sender addresses
- Urgent language ("Act now!")
- Requests for passwords or personal info
- Links to fake websites
- Unexpected attachments
Email Authentication
Set up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC to:
- Prevent email spoofing
- Improve deliverability
- Protect your domain reputation
Spam Protection
- Enable spam filtering
- Don't click links in spam
- Never unsubscribe from obvious spam
Secure Connections
- Use SSL/TLS for email clients
- IMAP port 993, SMTP port 465/587
- Never use unencrypted connections
If Email is Compromised
- Change password immediately
- Check for forwarding rules
- Notify contacts of potential spam
- Enable 2FA if available
